Teaching Philosophy

My teaching mantra is everyone can learn. I say, if I can teach my ADHD enhanced family, I can teach anyone. By teaching hundreds of people of all ages, I realized most people have different learning styles, therefore I use multiple disciplines, from speaking to demonstrating to employing exercises so that everyone can understand.

My Muse, Andy

We all have been inspired by others. When picking friends, we look for a connection, a spirit, an energy, someone who's clever, kind and funny. Andy Hurwitz was that friend for me.

Our original connection was tennis. We played together on a team for several years before she said one day she couldn't play anymore. She had colon cancer. So in typical Andy form, she said, "I need you in my life on a weekly basis, therefore you're going to learn how to play mahjong." I said, "what's that?"

Now, many years later, I realize that mahjong was just the conduit to our friendship. Mahjong allows us to gather, listen and learn from each other. We laugh, we cry, we connect.

I would like to think that I can honor Andy's memory by spreading her love of the game to many others. Please see the link below to give if you are inspired.
